Knee pain

Understanding what sits behind knee pain is where relief starts.

Knee pain often means the demands placed on the knee, the load, have gone past what it can currently handle, the capacity.

Discomfort can also be driven by lifestyle factors: an unhealthy diet, weight gain around the middle, a sedentary week, not enough sleep and high stress all increase sensitivity in the joint and can make knee pain worse (Caneiro, 2022).

Knee pain care at The Spinal Studio

What We Look For

We look at the knee, the hip and the ankle together, and at what your week has been asking of them.

Then we work out how much the knee can handle right now, and build up from there.

How We Help

Load
Matching what you do to what the knee can handle right now.
Strength
Building capacity back through the whole leg.
Movement
Getting stairs, squatting and walking comfortable again.
Lifestyle
Talking through the things outside the room that keep it sensitive.

Our Approach

1

Muscular techniques

Hands-on work through the muscles around the knee and hip to settle the joint.

2

Joint mobilisation

Restoring range through the knee so loading it again feels normal.

3

Rebuild

Graded strength work through the leg, matched to what you want to get back to.

How the plan usually runs

The first three to four visits are about reducing the pain and getting you moving again. From there we slowly move into strengthening, with the plan worked backwards from what you want to get back to.
